POPE AFB, N.C. -- Each week the 43rd Airlift Wing highlights an outstanding Airman

Col. Craig Berlette, 43rd Airlift Wing Vice Commander, presented a Commander's Coin on behalf of Col. James Johnson, 43rd Airlift Wing Commander, to Senior Airman Marvin Ellis, 3rd Aerial Port Squadron, Aug 18 for his exceptional performance beyond the call of duty. 

Senior Airman Ellis enlisted in the military in September 2005. After Basic Military Training and Technical School he was assigned to 3rd APS, where he is currently a Combat Readiness Technician. 

He manages the deployment requirements of 265 personnel distributed in three deployment bands, ensuring that deploying personnel are ready to execute their missions. 

Senior Airman Ellis' duties require him to act as a liaison between the squadron and numerous agencies on base, as well as Air Mobility Command Headquarters.
He deployed to Incirlik AB, Turkey, in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom from May through November 2007. 

In addition to his regular duties, Senior Airman Ellis is the alternate Unit Fitness Program Manager, which boasts a 91 percent pass rate. 

He also conducts remedial physical training classes, five days a week, for individuals who do not meet fitness standards. 

As a member of the Pope Honor Guard, he led the rifle detail during the Wing's memorial service honoring its fallen warrior, Senior Airman Ashton Goodman. 

His excellent performance while serving with the Honor Guard led to his selection as one of two members to travel to Scott AFB, Ill., to participate in the Order of the Sword ceremony. 

Finally, Senior Airman Ellis spent countless hours in preparation for the 3rd APS's recent 50th Anniversary celebration of its mascot, Jiminy Cricket, making it a memorable event for all attendees. 

Senior Airman Ellis has been married to his wife, Angel, for three years and they have a son, Tyler. 

He enlisted to "serve his country and provide opportunities for himself and his family."
