POPE AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. --
A Pope Airman has won a $250 scholarship from the Tarheel Chapter of the Logistics Officers Association and a $2,000 scholarship from the National LOA.
Tech. Sgt. Steven Hart, NCO in charge of passenger services, was recently awarded the scholarships for his high grade point average, his leadership performance, and base and community involvement.
Sergeant Hart's has consistently kept a 3.85 GPA in his studies at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, completing 112 semester hours toward his degree.
Sergeant Hart manages the combat readiness of more than 225 personnel and more than $50 million in equipment. He was selected by Air Mobility Command as one of 25 AMC Rodeo umpires.
In addition to revamping passenger/fleet services and improving flight readiness by 50 percent, he implemented new scanner technology, reducing passenger processing time by 40 percent.
Sergeant Hart volunteers, as well, organizing fundraisers in support of the 2006 Pope Air Force Ball raising more than $1,400.
He also devised and coordinated the volunteer efforts of 36 personnel and 288 hours for Habitat for Humanity, and was one of 23 Airmen handpicked to augment security for U.S. Open Golf Tournament in Pinehurst, N.C.
Sergeant Hart will accept the $2,000 scholarship Oct. 12, in San Antonio, Texas, at the Annual LOA Convention.
