ATA Convention Speaker Published July 19, 2010 By 43rd Airlift Wing POPE AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- The Airlift Tanker Association, Tarheel Chapter, is hosting Thornton Rose as a guest speaker at the Pope Club July 23 from 11-1 p.m. Mr. Rose flew in the Hump mission during World War II. "The Hump" was a high altitude military aerial supply route over the Assam Valley in northeastern India, across northern Burma, to Yunnan province in southwestern China.
