Pope Briefs May 17-21 Published April 19, 2010 POPE AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- Reilly Street Repairs 43rd Civil Engineer Squadron will begin repair of the asphalt on Reilly St, south of the Pope Bowling Center, May 25 at 8 a.m. The portion of the road will be closed all day. Traffic heading northeast will be detoured to Apollo St, then to Virgin St, and back down Armistead St. The detour is scheduled to last until 6 a.m. May 26. Traffic heading southwest on Reilly St will not be affected. 2010 Endurance Relay and Strong Man Competition Airmen, Soldiers, families and friends are invited to sign up and participate in the 2010 Endurance Run and Strong Man Competition April 29 through 30 at the Fitness Center. The run, hosted by Pope's Company Grade Officers' Club, is scheduled to include a 12- and 24-hour relay, a strongman competition and a wide variety of family activities to raise money and benefit the Air Force Assistance Fund. AFROTC Scholarship The Scholarship for Outstanding Airmen program allows commanders the opportunity to select outstanding active duty Airmen for an ROTC scholarship. If selected, Airmen will be discharged from active duty to pursue a commission through AFROTC. The scholarship pays for college tuition and fees, plus a textbook allowance. A monthly, non-taxable allowance is also earned during the school year. AMC has nine quotas for SOAR, with Sept. 15 being the established deadline for applications to be received at MAJCOM.
