Col. Craig Berlette, 43rd Airlift Wing Vice Commander, presented the Commander's Coin on behalf of Col. James Johnson, 43rd AW Commander, to Staff Sgt. Dustin Furman, 2nd Airlift Squadron, for his exceptional performance beyond the call of duty, April 20.

The tracking system aided to decrease the number of late decorations by more than 70 percent. As the driving force behind the revamped decorations process, Sergeant Furman initiated, reviewed and edited more than 50 medals and briefed the 2nd AS commander weekly on the awards and decorations status.

Sergeant Furman filled a critical unit manning void and flawlessly managed the squadron recognition program, ensuring proper recognition for more than 330 Airmen.

In addition, Sergeant Furman volunteered his off duty time to move the awards and decorations office in order to facilitate the establishment of a new squadron medical office. He has also volunteered to assist with the 43rd Operations Group golf tournament.

Sergeant Furman enlisted into the Air Force in December 1996 as a mail processing specialist and postal clerk. He retrained into his current job as an aircraft structural maintenance craftsman. He has been at Pope since November 2004 and his hobbies include traveling, playing golf and scuba diving.
