BRAC: Official Mail Center

As of Sept. 30, the management of the distribution of official mail on Pope will change. It has been the responsibility of the 43rd Communications Squadron, but the 440th Communications Flight will assume control of the Official Mail Center on this date.

When this occurs, there are changes that units need to be aware of for incoming and outgoing mail. The OMC will only handle inbound official mail for each unit. This means each unit will be required to manage and fund their own outgoing official mail.

This can be accomplished in one of two ways; either take their mail to the U.S. Post Office in Bldg. 347, or have it metered through the Army. If going through the Army, each unit will have to establish an account which requires an initial $200 deposit until a work center history is established on how much they spend on postage each year.

The 43rd CS will cease mail runs April 1. Units will then assume pickup responsibility for all official mail through authorized personnel picking up mail from Bldg. 347.

The 440th CF will manage the pickup point at specified hours for oversized packages and locking mailboxes have been constructed for each unit. Each unit will need to identify and appoint mail handlers on an Air Force Form 4332. For pick up, go to the Official Mail Center window. Keys will be issued to units who are remaining Post-BRAC.
