Department of Defense officials announced today the death of a Pope Airman who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Senior Airman Ashton L. M. Goodman, 21, of Indianapolis, died May 26 near Bagram Air Field, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained from an improvised explosive device. She was assigned to the 43rd Logistics Readiness Squadron at Pope.

"Ashton made the ultimate sacrifice in her service to our great nation," said Col. John McDonald, 43rd Airlift Wing Commander. "We will all feel sorrow as a result of her death, but should celebrate in how she chose to live her life, her commitment and dedication."

Airman Goodman is the fourth Team Pope Airman killed in action since Sept. 11, 2001 and the first from the 43rd Airlift Wing.
