The Carolina Hurricanes hosted their annual Military Appreciation Game Sunday afternoon against the Colorado Avalanche, thanking more than 5,000 military personnel with complimentary tickets and dozens of military-themed displays and in-game activities.

Pope was out in full force at the RBC Center in Raleigh to watch the Hurricanes notch a 5-2 victory. In addition to the 43rd Security Forces Squadron and 43rd Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron setting up equipment displays outside the arena, the Pope Honor Guard presented the colors before a sold-out crowd of 18,680.

Throughout the game, video tributes were played from Hurricanes players thanking military members for their service and discussing various questions about the military. The team also presented Gen. (Ret.) Hugh Shelton, the former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and North Carolina State University graduate, with a jersey and a video tribute to his career.

The Hurricanes regular season runs through early April; tickets for their games are available through Pope Information Tickets and Travel at 394-4478.
