Scholarships Available For Pope/Bragg Members and Families Published Feb. 4, 2009 By 43rd Airlift Wing Public Affairs POPE AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- MOAA Scholarship The Military Officers Association of America is pleased to offer their base/post scholarships again for this year. This MOAA program provides grants of $1,000 each to 25 children of military personnel. This scholarship is one of several MOAA education programs designed to help finance higher education for college-bound or current undergraduate students under the age of 24. Membership in MOAA is not required and there are no need-based criteria, no GPA minimums, no essays and no fees. Students can easily apply by completing the on-line application. Applications must be received by noon, March 2. An applicant must be the child of an active duty member or a drilling Reserve/National Guard member, officer or enlisted, of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, United States Public Health or National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration. Scholarship winners will be randomly selected from applicants, with representation given to each of the uniformed services, including Reserves and National Guard. MOAA's immensely successful scholarship grants and zero-interest loans are currently helping more than 1,600 uniformed services family members to meet their college expenses. The scholarship is part of our ongoing effort to assist young people in our nation's military families, and we hope to receive many applications from students within your base community. EMBARQ/AFA Scholarship The Pope Chapter of the Air Force Association and Embarq Corporation will be awarding three $1,000 scholarships for family members of military personnel stationed at Pope. Applications can be found at the Education Center on Pope or by calling Robert Grover, Embarq Corporation, 323-5281. Applicants will be judged on financial need, academic achievement, personal awards, and community service. Students must be attending or planning to attend a four-year college or university to be eligible to participate. A personal essay, letters of recommendation, a list of school and community activities, a certified copy of the latest high school or college transcript, and letters of acceptance to a college or university must accompany the application. AFCEA Scholarship The North Carolina Chapter of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association is proud to announce that it's now accepting applications for their annual $3,000 scholarships. Each year AFCEA helps to support undergraduates at four-year colleges/universities who are pursuing a course of study leading to a Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math discipline that supports AFCEA's focus on technology. Awards are competitive with academic performance and potential as the primary selection criteria and extracurricular activities and financial need as secondary selection criteria. Eligibility for this year's scholarship is open to residents from Cumberland and bordering counties, Fort Bragg and Pope employees, to include civilian and military or their family members attending or plan on attending university.
