Todd Wivell 43rd Airlift Wing Public Affairs POPE AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- Military Family Appreciation week is Nov. 15 through Nov. 21. Pope and its sponsors have put together a fun filled week of events that center on the military and their families. Outlined below are the full details of this upcoming week of events: Saturday and Sunday all family members are invited to play golf at the Willow Lakes Golf Course. The greens fees have been slashed for this fun filled family event. Senior Airmen and below in rank can walk the course for $8.50 for two and staff sergeants and above in rank can walk the course for $10 for two. Anyone wanting to golf and ride, the fees are $10 each for the cart and golf is free. The event kicks off Saturday at 11 a.m. with a youth drive, pitch and putt contest. All children will play for free on these days and children 13 and under get free club rentals. There will be plenty of giveaways during the day as well. Admission costs are $1 per person and the movie starts at 6:30 p.m. As always, the Pope Theater will offer specials on their concessions. Free dinner including spaghetti, garlic bread, pizza, salad and drinks will be provided to all families. The doors open at 5 p.m. Games and entertainment will be provided as well. For more information, contact the Pope Club at 394-2154. Wednesday is the day to come out and work off your Tuesday night meal as a family with the Family Fitness of Fun event. Enjoy fitness with your family, play games that bring back childhood memories while learning more ways to keep your family active. The event will start at 6 p.m. at the Pope Fitness Center. Activities include basketball, fitness skillastics, jump roping, dancing, parachute play and many more events. For more information, contact LaTreva Rush at 394-4291. Thursday night is game night at the Pope Club. Bring the entire family out to play games together such as "Are you smarter than a 5th grader?" Best Buy will host a Nintendo Wii demonstration. Other fun filled games are planned for this evening; all children are welcome to attend. Those wanting to eat at the club can purchase their meals there as well. The finale starts at 4:30 p.m. at Woodland Park where there will be a children's carnival, the Great Family Pie Bake off, a live band, a family Volksmarch, food and door prizes galore. A motorcycle rally with a cruise through Pope Housing will start at 4:30 p.m. A prize will be given to the best overall motorcycle. Register your motorcycle with Tech. Sgt. All families are invited to bring their own coolers to this finale, however no glass bottles are allowed. Once a year Pope and its sponsors recognize the military family and this is the time to bring your families out and enjoy all that is being offered.
