Pope spouses can impact Air Force with survey

The 2008 Community Assessment Survey is now available to Pope service members and spouses. This survey is the best way for all of Team Pope's members to make their opinions and needs known. The results of the survey will be used by base leadership and the Air Force to target resources where they are most needed and enhance the well-being of the community.

The Pope survey is part of an Air Force-wide initiative, as active duty, reserve and civilian members at bases worldwide are being randomly selected to participate in the study. E-mail notification is being sent to individuals selected to participate. Participation is crucial to the success of the project, and those selected are strongly urged to take part.

The voices of Air Force families will be heard as well. All dependent spouses are eligible to participate in this year's Community Assessment, which is a change from previous practices, when only a few spouses were randomly selected to participate. Survey information, including the Web site (http://spouseafcasurvey.com/) and access code (SpouseAFCA) has been sent to the home address of every Air Force spouse. In order to accurately address the needs of family members, Air Force leaders urge every spouse to take this opportunity and to make their opinions count.

"The 2008 Community Assessment Survey is a top priority," Capt. John Warburton, Pope Integrated Delivery Services Chair, said. "It is the best way for us to listen to Team Pope service members and spouses and then provide services to help meet their needs. It allows them to express their opinions anonymously so participants can respond openly and honestly to issues that affect them every day."

Through the completion of the CA, survey responses can directly influence family services and related support activities at local bases and throughout the Air Force. In fact, results from previous Air Force Community Assessments have impacted the policies and programs that support spouses at every level of the Air Force, to include:

-Adjusting childcare and other support services to better match the needs of the community

-Increasing opportunities to socialize and participate in on- and off-base activities.

-Increasing spouse-to-spouse support, especially during times when service member is deployed or TDY

-Increasing job opportunities for AF spouses

This year's survey here will be particularly important. As part of a Department of Defense sponsored initiative, this year's Community Assessment, along with some supplemental questions, will be used to direct additional resources to help service members and families base wide. Base agencies will be working with researchers to ensure that this year's survey results are used to maximum benefit.

All civilian spouses of active duty Air Force members are encouraged to take the survey and can log onto the site with the access code given above. The survey takes 30-40 minutes to complete, but can be started and saved at will.
