The summer months - June, July and August - are typically the most hectic for military members making a permanent change of station. Those members set to PCS in summer 2008 should be aware of the processes regarding temporary lodging.

When first notified of an impending PCS movement, the member should contact base lodging to check for availability. Members can not seek off-base lodging without first checking availability with base lodging.

"If it is determined that there is no on-base availability, members will be informed to come by the lodging office with a copy of their orders to be issued a non availability statement," Robert Sperry, Carolina Inn employee, said. "From there, they will be given a list of our contracted hotels and informed that they must return to lodging office to have the non-availability statement completed prior to going to finance."

The important things to keep in mind when forced to use off-base temporary lodging are the amount of days authorized and the limits on reimbursement. For information on both topics, PCS'ing members should contact their gaining unit's finance office.

For more information, contact the Carolina Inn at 394-4131.

"Our priority is to provide all military members with the finest quality service to ensure that their transition to or from the area is a smooth as possible," Mr. Sperry said.
