"The Extra Mile," the 24-hour endurance run event to benefit the Air Force Assistance Fund, is less than two weeks away.

Those looking to participate can still register online at the Company Grade Officer's Council page on Pope's Intranet Web site. Individuals can register to walk or run on their own or as part of a team in either the 12 or 24-hour portions of the event.

The event will begin at 3 p.m. on the Pope Fitness Center track April 24, with the 12-hour portion starting at 3 a.m. April 25.

Last year's event raised more than $11,000 for the AFAF, and the goal this year is to raise $15,000. Participants can receive donations from anyone, and those pledging can do so with either a flat donation or based on a lap, mile or hours ran basis.

Participants are encouraged to bring out friends and family as spectators, and there will be assorted activities for all ages throughout the event.

The event will take place regardless of weather, so make plans now to be there. For more information on how to register or volunteer, call 2nd Lt. Jimmy Livingston at 394-7303 or 1st Lt. J.P. Felmet at 394-4739.
