Pope Airmen helped to make the base's effort in the 2007 Combined Federal Campaign a success, raising more than $200,000, which was better than all but three bases in Air Mobility Command.

The final tally for donations was $210,732, which beat the goal of $200,000 that was set when the campaign began on Oct. 2. There was 100 percent contact made on base for the campaign, which ran until Nov. 20.

"We'll see the benefits and hundreds of people outside of Pope will also benefit from our contributions," Col. John McDonald, 43rd Airlift Wing Vice Commander, said.

"There was amazing participation with everything going on during the campaign; it was easy to push it aside but no one did that. They still paid attention and followed through to meet the aggressive goal."

Scott AFB, Ill., which includes personnel for wing, headquarters AMC and U.S. Transportation Command, raised $837,746.

The only other bases to raise more than Pope were Travis AFB, Calif. and Charleston AFB, S.C., which raised $393,475 and $240,620, respectively.

"It was an outstanding team effort," Capt. Steven Keenan, Pope's CFC program manager, said.

The impact of Pope's generosity will be felt throughout the U.S. and internationally, as the CFC supports eligible non-profit organizations that provide health and human service benefits throughout the world.

More than 22,000 charities participate in CFC, and last year the campaign, which is the world's largest and most successful annual workplace charity campaign, raised more than $271 million.

In 2006, Pope raised $234,309, which beat the goal of $190,000.

Donations were made by the common methods of cash, check, direct donation or payroll deduction, but there were also several fundraisers held through the six weeks of the campaign.

One such fundraiser was a burrito sale, which Captain Keenan said raised more than $1,000 and sold more than 700 burritos despite inclement weather.

In total, AMC raised $2,743,132, with some of the other notable bases being Dover AFB, Del. ($163,295), McGuire AFB, N.J. ($161,106) and McChord AFB, Wash. ($131,919).

With Pope surpassing its CFC goal yet again, the stage is set for another record-breaking campaign this fall!
