Chris Hoyler 43rd Airlift Wing Public Affairs POPE AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- Super Bowl Bingo was held Jan. 19 at the Pope Club, with thousands of dollars worth of NFL memorabilia given away in addition to the grand prize, an all-expenses paid trip to the Super Bowl. The winner of the grand prize was Julio Rigaberto Fujardo, a family member from MacDill AFB, Fla. He will go with one other person of his choosing to Glendale, Ariz. for Super Bowl LXII Feb. 3, which will pit the New England Patriots against the New York Giants. He decided to keep the trip instead of trading it in for a cash-value prize of $6,500. The trip to the Super Bowl was valued at $13,000. Super Bowl Bingo was a day-long celebration of all things NFL, with dozens of autographed items given away as door prizes. More than 400 people attended, according to 1st Lt. Jon Felmet, 43rd Services Squadron ,and one of the three master's of ceremony of the event. Also serving as masters of ceremony were Tech. Sgt. Brian Miller, 43rd Communications Squadron and Rob Reichenbach. The three facilitated the awarding of door prizes, which came down to the winners deciding whether they would keep the memorabilia for themselves or immediately auction it off to the crowd. Most decided to keep their prizes, but some items, including a signed Houston Oilers jersey of Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Earl Campbell, were auctioned and fetched a high price. The Campbell jersey went for $350. "The biggest auctioned item that sticks out in my mind was the autographed Jim Brown jersey," Lieutenant Felmet said. Mr. Fujardo added that he was very excited to win the grand prize and that he was planning on bringing his father, Julio, with him to the Super Bowl.
