In memory of Senior Airman Larry Ray Davis, Jr. Published Feb. 22, 2007 POPE AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- Car accident takes life of Airman Senior Airman Larry Ray Davis Jr. was a security forces controller with the 43rd Security Forces Squadron. He was assigned to the night shift crew and handled 911 emergency dispatch. The Security Forces Controller Section is staffed by Airmen who have continuously demonstrated expert law enforcement knowledge and shown the added ability to multitask during stressful incidents. Airman Davis was certainly one of the most knowledgeable and dedicated Airmen assigned to the unit. This was clearly evident by his assignment to and success with the elite Security Forces Controller section. Airman Davis was born Oct. 21, 1983, in Murphy, N.C. He was a 2002 graduate of Nantahala High School in Topton, N.C. He enlisted in the Air Force Aug. 6, 2002, and arrived at Pope Jan. 3, 2003, after completing 13 weeks of technical training at Lackland AFB, Texas. He deployed in July 2003 to Southwest Asia in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM, defending U.S. interests abroad and combating terrorist aggression. He enjoyed spending time with his beloved children, Larry and Harmony, as well as playing basketball and golf. During his tenure, Airman Davis was promoted to senior airman below-the-zone. His decorations include the Air Force Training Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, the Air Force Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and the Air Force Achievement Medal. He is survived by his wife, Sarah, 21-month-old son Larry, his 9-month-old daughter Harmony, all of Cameron, N.C.; his mother Donna Davis of Nantahala, N.C., his brothers Richard and Sean Davis, Brent Baldwin, Joshua Griffith, and two sisters, Amanda and Melinda Griffith. His father, Larry Davis Sr. served in the Air Force and Army until he died May 19, 1983. Airman Larry Davis Jr., also leaves a host of co-workers, relatives and friends who mourn his loss.
