Making the most of summer's time

Looking for some fun in the sun for the children? Look no further. The Pope School Age Program offers activities throughout the summer break to keep children from becoming bored or cooped up indoors. The program offers field trips, swimming and bowling to children ages 5 to 12.

The summer is broken into themed weeks and classes such as Mixed Media, Youth United and Dramatic Play. Below is a list of the summer activities. For more information, call 394-2869.

July 24 through 28 is "You're Grounded" Week. There is a field trip to a train station July 24 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Learn how motorcycles run, what they are made of and design a dream cycle of your own in the Mixed Media study.

Do lemons really have power? Learn how to turn a lemon into electrical energy with enough voltage to illuminate a light bulb in Discovery class. In Edutainment, discover the different modes of transportation and what fuels them.

Character counts in the Dramatic Play class. Children will continue to learn what's right from wrong and what appropriate choices are as well as start good lifestyle habits.

July 31 through Aug. 4 is "Explode, Explore and Experiment" Week. There is a field trip to the Museum of Life and Science July 31 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and to Lake Rim from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Children will look for volcanoes on computers and in books and then make a volcano of their own in Mixed Media study. Learn how to make sparkling crystals in Discovery class.

Explore the way sand interacts with the Earth's natural elements and make sand sculptures. In Dramatic Play, experiment with dance by using the Dance Revolution video game. (Courtesy of the Pope School Age Program)
