MSgt. John Chapman honored with aircraft dedication
A plaque of U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. John Chapman is revealed to Valerie Nessel, the widow of Chapman, during an aircraft dedication ceremony on Oct. 26, 2018, at Hurlburt Field, Florida. A C-32 assigned to the 89th Airlift Wing was dedicated to Chapman, a Special Tactics combat controller, who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his extraordinary heroism during the Battle of Takur Ghar in March 2002, while deployed to Afghanistan. Airmen support joint Large Package Week, EDRE
POPE ARMY AIRFIELD, N.C. — Staff Sgt. Paul McClain, an aircraft electrician in the 43d Air Mobility Squadron Maintenance Flight here, reviews maintenance procedures while working in a C-17 Globemaster III on Green Ramp Feb. 9, 2018, during a joint Large Package Week and Emergency Deployment Readiness Exercise held Feb. 5-11. Airmen in the 43d Air Mobility Operations Group at Pope provided maintenance and other ground support for visiting Air Force aircrews airlifting Soldiers and equipment out of Pope Field during the exercise. Throughout the week, Air Mobility Command crews carried out 173 missions, transporting more than 3,000 paratroopers and 2.8 million pounds of heavy vehicles, container delivery systems and other cargo. Airmen in the 43d AMOG here serve as the linchpin for America’s Global Response Force, connecting AMC airlift and Brigade Combat Teams of the 82nd ABN DIV, and providing operations, maintenance, Aerial Port, fuels, ground equipment and other support.
