  • Published
Col. James Johnson, 43rd Airlift Wing Commander, presented his Commander's Coin to 2nd Lt. Matt Miller, 43rd Comptroller Squadron, for his exceptional performance beyond the call of duty.

Lieutenant Miller is the Deputy Financial Analysis Flight Commander of seven military members and two civilians. He also directs the budget and accounting functions for the 43rd AW's Wing Staff Agency, the 43rd Medical Group and Pope's civilian pay programs.

During the 2009 fiscal year, the lieutenant led a $3.37 million closeout and coordinated actions with 10 resource advisors. He also developed "one-touch" status of funds application which enabled analysts to present on-the-spot decisions, corrected $90,000 in invalid civilian pay charges and justified 30 overhires, garnering $1.4 million.

Lieutenant Miller is pursuing his certified public accounting certification and has currently completed and passed three of four sections. His long-term goals include starting his own business. He was also elected by his peers to serve as secretary of the Company Grade Officer's Council.

"Lieutenant Miller is an exceptional financial management lieutenant, not merely because of his considerable work ethic and his desire to learn the ins-and-outs of our business," said Capt. Shirrisha Peake, 43rd CPTS. "Matt approaches leadership with a winning combination of professionalism and desire to serve those in his charge.
