Coining Pope's Finest: Maj. Teresa Hughes Published Dec. 3, 2009 POPE AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- Col. James Johnson, 43rd Airlift Wing Commander, presented his Commander's Coin to Maj. Teresa Hughes, 43rd Medical Group, for her exceptional performance beyond the call of duty. Major Hughes is the Family Practice Clinic Flight Commander and was instrumental in crafting the group's H1N1 protocols. As the only active duty psychologist, she is frequently called upon to conduct command directed evaluations and carries a partial patient load as the only Behavioral Health Provider in the clinic. The major also fills in at the Mental Health Clinic and has filled in as Pope's nutrition expert, teaching the two-hour body composition improvement program and follow-up classes. Major Hughes has been awarded the squadron's flight commander of the quarter twice, and her flight was named Medical Operations Squadron Flight of the Quarter this quarter. She and her husband, Maj. John Hughes, have two sons, Jason and Ryan. Off duty, Major Hughes enjoys helping others and spending time with family and friends.
