Pope firefighters teach children safety and prevention
The Pope Fire Department held several special events in celebration of Fire Prevention Week Oct. 4 through 10. An opening ceremony was held at the station Oct. 5. Throughout the week, many of the events revolved around children to provide them a fun way to learn about fire safety. The members visited the Child Development Center, the Pope Library, the School Age Program facility and the Pope Elementary School with Sparky the Fire Dog, hosted a housing facility parade and took part in the Fall Safety Day at Cross Creek Mall. The annual event helps to raise awareness, educate others on prevention and provides tips on keeping homes safe from the leading causes of fires. (U.S. Photo by Rhonda Griffin)
