Staff Sgt. Krista Fitzgerald, 43rd Airlift Wing, was presented a Commander's Coin July 7 by Col. James Johnson, 43rd Airlift Wing Commander. The presentation was in recognition for Sergeant Fitzgerald's efforts on the recent HQ/AMC Level II Antiterrorism certification course hosted by Pope.

The Antiterrorism course is designed to qualify individuals assigned as installation antiterrorism officers and advisors. This is a five-day course that covers various topics in terrorism, antiterrorism, mitigation of vulnerabilities, resource management force protection conditions, threat levels, preparing antiterrorism plans, domestic terrorism and terrorist operations.

Sergeant Fitzgerald is new to Pope's Antiterrorism office and took charge of the project only a few months ago. To accomplish the task, she coordinated between eight Air Force bases, the National Security Administration and every unit on Pope to include tenants. She developed welcome packets for those on TDY, arranged for a facility and gathered all the items necessary to accommodate the classroom as well as established the publication of the course material.

In addition to establishing the groundwork for the course, Sergeant Fitzgerald also organized a class social hosted by the Pope Club, a pancake breakfast and several other initiatives above and beyond what was required.
