Lifeguards needed for Pope Pool Published March 9, 2009 POPE AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- It is almost that time of year ... warm rays, suntan lotion, sparkling swimming pools and lots of laughter. The Pope Pool is looking for a few great lifeguards to keep everyone safe and ensure a summer of fun at the pool. Here are the basic criteria individuals who are interested in becoming a Pope lifeguard need to know: - Lifeguards must be at least 16 years of age - Lifeguards must be certified by the American Red Cross in life saving and water rescue methods and skills, in basic first aid and CPR (for both children and adults). The pool season starts on Memorial Day weekend. Many special events are planned for the summer including a Firecracker Splash on the Fourth of July, the Pope Regatta (where squadrons compete by racing cardboard boats in the pool), the popular "Pope Floats" and a Back-to-School Pool Popsicle Party. The pool is also available to rent for private parties after normal opening hours. Youth Swimming Lessons are extremely popular, featuring three sessions. The pool will close on Labor Day weekend with one final pool party. It is easy to see why Pope lifeguards are such important people when it comes to having fun in the sun at the pool. When announcements are posted, individuals may apply by submitting their application and resume to www.usajobs.com. For more information or assistance, call 394-2418/2695.
