Pope Icon wraps up August 15 Published Aug. 8, 2008 By 43rd Force Support Squadron POPE AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- Pope's own Pope Idol program has gone Air Mobility Command wide and become the "AMC Icon!" It's the same great program; all the same fun, great entertainment, audience participation, awesome prizes and give-aways, and high stakes for the contestants, just with a new name and even more to give away. This year, Pope and Fort Bragg's finest vocalists battle for the top spot at the local Pope Icon and win big cash prizes. Then, the top Air Force personnel will go on to the AMC-level competition at Scott Air Force Base, Ill. to compete against all the other AMC base winners for more cash and a chance to perform with Tops in Blue. On Aug. 15, the Pope Theater is the place to be. Starting at 7 p.m. (doors open at 6 p.m.) the lights will dim, the crowd will hush and the light will shine on our proud performers. There will be concessions and a cash bar available and tons of goodies and prizes to be given out. But the fun doesn't stop there... after the contestants have battled it out and the top three have claimed their victories, we're heading over to the Pope Club for the after party. Man-up Music Network recording artist DeVohn Sutton will be performing live with his band and DJ Xtreme Sounds will be pumping it up until 1 a.m. A big-screen LCD HDTV will be given away. Get your free raffle ticket at the theater during Pope Icon. You must be present at the After Party to win. DeVohn Sutton, one of last year's Pope Idol winners, is more than a gifted artist- he is the embodiment of R&B singers of the past with the passion and energy of artists today. "Pusha Man," DeVohn's first radio hit, was recognized as the No. 1 indie song of 2008 by DJ Buppy B of 99.8 "The Beat" in London. A 21st century love song, "Keep Lovin," broke 104.5's indie countdown record two weeks in row beating out major record label artist Robin Thicke. Don't miss this great evening of entertainment brought to you by the 43rd Force Support Squadron and AMC's Icon program.
