Wingmen on the Run Published March 30, 2007 By Staff Sgt. Cassandra Locke 43AW/PA POPE AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- Team Pope members along with Superman, Iron Man and Capt. America helped raise money for the Air Force Assistance Fund at the Pope Team Endurance Relay March 23 and 24. More than 181 runners completed more than 2,100 miles within a 24 hour period. There were two categories: The 12 hour and 24 hour. In the 12 hour category, the 43rd Services Squadron team was awarded first place with 92 miles. In the 24 hour category, the 18th Air Support Operations Group team was awarded first place with 201.25 miles. The event was free of charge to all competitors and everyone received accolades for their participation. Other events in conjunction were: family activities, explosive ordnance disposal bomb robot demonstration, a 43rd Security Forces Squadron weapons display, 43rd SFS working dog demonstration, car stereo sound off competition, disk jockey Pope Idol contestants performed and On Tap Band performed as well. As of Wednesday, more than $4,300 in donations had been collected from the Endurance Relay, with more money still coming in.
