Tryouts yield new team for Pope Published March 19, 2007 By Nicole Campbell Staff Writer POPE AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- The Pope traveling softball team held tryouts last week to fill the 14-player roster. The team's coach, Craig Reid, 43rd Logistics Readiness Squadron, said there were no obvious standouts during tryouts, but the team will start off the season with a tournament, which should highlight each player's skills. The team will play within North Carolina and South Carolina -- if they do well, there is a chance to play in the U.S. Slow-pitch Softball Association's Military World Championship tournament later in the year.
