You spoke, we listened Published Jan. 12, 2007 By 1st Lt. Lisa Ferguson 43rd Airlift Wing Public Affairs POPE AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- The 43rd Airlift Wing Public Affairs Office conducted a Carolina Flyer readership survey in July 2006, in an effort to streamline the contents of the paper and bring the readers more of what they want to read about. In general, Pope's statistics fell in line with the Air Force's statistics. Below are some of the results and comments from the survey. More than 70 percent of readers who took the survey believe the Carolina Flyer's writing is easy to understand, falling just short of the Air Force's 76 percent mark. Readers who took the survey did not believe the paper was geared toward one section of the base population, neither officers, enlisted nor civilians. Seventy-eight percent of the readers surveyed also believe that the Carolina Flyer keeps them fully informed about events happening on base, beating out the Air Force average of 73 percent. In many of the comments, readers requested bigger and more pictures recognizing Airmen who've won awards at all levels, base and higher. The Carolina Flyer staff has worked hard to recognize award winners and sharp Airmen throughout the base, through Wingman of the Week submissions and features of units winning awards in the paper. Several readers who took the survey commented that there were too many advertisements in the paper. Per Air Force Instruction 35-101 Public Affairs Guidance and Policies, the ad ratio to news is 60:40, meaning 60 percent ads to 40 percent news. The Carolina Flyer tracks this weekly, and it falls within the guidelines of the AFI. Many readers also wanted to be able to read the Carolina Flyer online. All local stories in the paper are posted Fridays at Pope's public site, http://public.pope.amc.af.mil. The Carolina Flyer staff works hard to bring readers the stories and information that are important to them. If you have any comments or ideas, e-mail carolina.flyer@pope.af.mil or call 394-4185.
