Pay it forward: AADD needs volunteers Published Jan. 4, 2007 By Staff Sgt. Cassandra Locke Editor POPE AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- Looking for a volunteer opportunity to start the new year? Anyone can volunteer for Airman Against Drunk Driving; officers, enlisted, DoD civilians, spouses, retirees, etc. "We usually encourage the younger troops to get involved, so that they are the heaviest users of the program so if you encourage the use, encourage the volunteer time," said Staff Sgt. Scott Stover, AADD president. Airmen can benefit by volunteering for this organization and having their time notated on their Enlisted Performance Report. Airmen may get formal recognition from wing leadership and it gives Airmen an opportunity to get involved with the base. "Volunteering shows what true wingmen do to take care of each other," said Sergeant Stover. Sergeant Stover said AADD is involved in several events each year and volunteers attend for free. Events include: Super Bowl Bingo, holiday parties, Air Force Ball, dining-ins, dining-outs, banquets, and more. "The Pope community has really embraced AADD, and we are being recognized more than ever," said Sergeant Stover. "This [recognition] comes from the wing level all the way down to the young troops." Sergeant Stover said the goals for AADD this year are to beat our number of saves that they had last year, 504. "With any luck we're on track to beat that by over 100 from last year. It's more of a personal benefit knowing that you are saving another person's career or life is a benefit you can not put a price on."
