Learn enlisted career choices Published Dec. 7, 2006 By 43rd Airlift Wing Career Assistance Advisor POPE AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- There will be an Enlisted Career Bazaar Dec. 13 at the Pope Club from noon to 4:30 p.m. There will be representatives from more than 13 Air Force Specialties and special duty positions. The bazaar gives enlisted Airmen information to determine the course of their Air Force careers. The Enlisted Career Bazaar is sponsored by the 43rd Airlift Wing, Pope's Career Assistance Advisor and the Commander's Action Group. Force Shaping is currently reducing the Air Force by 30,000 enlisted Airmen over the next two years. One of the many ways that this is happening is by controlling the number of Career Job Reservations that are given out. Many Airmen in constrained (overage) AFSCs are already making career impacting decisions on whether to retrain or separate from the Air Force due to being denied their CJR. For fiscal year 2007, the number of constrained AFSCs will double from 2006, affecting twice as many Airmen. "We want the enlisted force to know that they do have options in their Air Force career, but they have to be proactive about them," said Master Sgt. Michael Reeves, career advisor. He also said the bazaar is not just for the First Term Airmen, it is also for career Airmen, including senior NCOs. "Every Airman, no matter what their rank, should be making their own career decisions. Don't let the Air Force tell you what you are going to do, tell the Air Force what you want to do," said Sergeant Reeves. The Enlisted Career Bazaar will feature a wide range of AFSCs from special duties to some of the Air Force's most challenging careers. "The best part about the job fair is that you can speak to a live person who is currently in that AFSC, instead of having to read a general job description from an Air Force Instruction and guess if that is what you might want to do," said Tech. Sgt. Mark Devericks, CAG. The experts from the various retraining-in AFSCs will be there to let those looking to retrain know what they can expect from that particular job. Intangible benefits (travel, work schedules, job satisfaction) as well as tangible benefits (special duty pay, promotions) are things that can't be found in the Airman's Classification Manual and may well make the difference in someone choosing one AFSC over another. AFSCs represented include: 1A0X1-1A8X1 All Career Enlisted Aviators 1C2X1 Combat Control 1C4X1 TACP 1C1X1 Air Traffic Control 1N0X1 Operations Intel 1N4X1 Network Intel 3E9X1 Readiness 3S3X1 Manpower 4C0X1 Mental Health 7S0X1 OSI 8F000 First Sergeant 8R000 AF Recruiter 8T000 Professional Military Education Army Recruiters will be on hand to discuss "Blue to Green" opportunities.
